- Model (upright, grand, table piano, etc.)
- Serial Number (lift upper lid and the Serial number is on top of the iron plate for an upright piano and somewhere before the tuning pins on a grand piano)
- Measure the height of the piano from floor to top on an upright and the longest distance possible on top of a grand piano lid.
- Are the strings, tuning pins, or any metal parts rusted?
- Does all the notes play?
- Does it sound nice?
Following your $125 payment, I will answer your comment by private email so that you can send me photos of the inside of your piano by replying to my email.
Instructions for piano dismantle
PS if it’s an upright piano, open the top lid and the front panel to take photos near hammers, mechanic and the strings. Under the keyboard, please take off the lower panel. It is held in place with only one spring. Take pictures of the strings, bridges and the soundboard. Just examine the inside of your piano and you will soon discover how to dismantle it. You wont need any tools.
Here is a (French) video from my PIANO TUNING TUTORIAL with which I teach piano tuning. You will have more instructions than necessary to take your photos but you will understand how the piano is built.
Don’t forget to remove the lower panel under the keyboard and take photos:
PS note that this visual assessment from photos does not replace an “on site” assessment, that is to say in real. Therefore, it is not accompanied by any guarantee apart from my willingness to help you. You can also make a video with your Smartphone playing a chromatic scale from the highest note to the lowest and send this recording to me for a more accurate appraisal.
